Westchester Resident and St. Mary’s Nurse Receives Award from New York Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (NYASHA)

Bayside, NY...

For more than 7 seven years the children and families at St. Mary’s Rehabilitation Center for Children in Ossining have known that Nurse Yi Song will do almost anything to help them. In an era of nursing shortages and stretched resources, Yi has repeatedly made personal sacrifices to make sure the chronically and terminally ill children at St. Mary’s are made as comfortable as possible and receive the highest quality nursing care.

This year Nurse Yi, a Yorktown resident, will receive the NYAHSA Long Term Care Employee of Distinction Award. The program recognizes the extraordinary efforts of front line staff, such as nurses, at New York's not-for-profit, mission-driven, long term care providers. The program is also meant to honor those who deal with the staffing crisis in long term care on a daily basis while successfully facing the challenge of providing quality care.

"Time and time again employees in the long term care profession demonstrate their commitment to the people they serve," said Carl S. Young, president of NYAHSA. "As New York's providers face the challenges associated with the current workforce shortage, this program is an opportunity for us to recognize those individuals who day after day perform their job in an exemplary manner. They truly are New York's 'everyday heroes'."

Carl Young and Assemblyman Adam Bradley will present the award to Nurse Yi on October 5, 2005 at 1:00 in St. Mary’s Rehabilitation Center for Children, 15 Spring Valley Road, Ossining, NY 10562.
