Pediatric/Adolescent
Medicine
St. Mary's Healthcare System for Children provides highly specialized medical
and rehabilitative care for children and adolescents who are challenged by a wide
variety of complex medical conditions. Sophisticated treatment modalities that
address all aspects of the physical healing process are enhanced by psychological
and developmental assessment and comprehensive multidisciplinary treatment coordination.
This child/family centered spectrum of care is dedicated to the unique needs of
children and adolescents. All services focus on positive emotional, cognitive,
environmental, social, and family outcomes that emphasize individual abilities
and enhance potential for growth.

Our Programs...
All programs and services are specifically designed to integrate the psychological,
cognitive, and developmental needs of children and adolescents with the treatment
of their medical conditions. These factors can have a significant effect on the
illness as well as on the patient's reaction to the illness, and our treatment
approach recognizes the importance of both in the total healing process. This
care coordination extends beyond our own treatment settings to include the total
range of services required by the individual--primary care, acute care, and specialty
care. Through our comprehensive system, the needs of the patient and the family
are individually evaluated, addressed, and monitored to achieve optimal outcomes.
St. Mary's coordination of services and programs ensures that the treatment
plan for each child is implemented in the most appropriate and least restrictive
setting. We are dedicated to returning the child to home and community as quickly
as possible. When inpatient care is no longer required, case
managers work with the family and our healthcare partners to provide referral
and linkage to outpatient, ancillary, home care, and
medical day care services. Our goal is to provide continuing
care while the child or adolescent benefits from the home and community environment.
