Jan Mittan Joins St. Mary’s Foundation for Children as VP, Development

Bayside, NY – St. Mary’s Foundation for Children recently named Jan Mittan as Vice President, Development. She joins St. Mary’s after spending five years at the Children’s Hospital Foundation at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital at Westchester Medical Center, most recently as its Executive Director.

At Children’s Hospital Foundation, Ms. Mittan managed a comprehensive development program following the completion of a capital campaign to build the new state-of-art Children’s Hospital that opened in September 2004. Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital is credited with having set the standard for future children’s hospitals throughout the world due to its total-healing environment. Working closely with the Board of Trustees, volunteer leadership, and over 150 pediatric specialists, Ms. Mittan, with her team, built on the success of the campaign to build the organization’s capacity through a strong annual fund and major gifts program by engaging unique constituencies.

Since 2001, Ms. Mittan has been a lecturer for Columbia University’s master’s degree program in Fundraising Administration and Management. Ms. Mittan is a frequent speaker at nonprofit conferences and workshops and most recently was invited to participate as one of three invited speakers from the United States at the Institutional Leadership Retreat hosted by The Kresge Foundation as part of their special initiative in South Africa.
Ms. Mittan has also served as Director of Major Gifts for the Eastern Division of the American Cancer Society and established and led the first development program for the Institute of Ecosystem Studies upon its separation from the New York Botanical Garden.
