Some special kids got their moment to shine in Bayside on Saturday.

About a dozen kids were dressed to the nines at the first ever Rock Star Pageant at Saint Mary's Healthcare System for Children.

Patients at the children's hospital sang and showed off their art pieces in a talent contest. Volunteer beauty queens were also on hand to help the contestants strut their stuff.

“This is a day of celebration for them,” said Jackie Wong, a volunteer at the hospital. “This is to honor them and to celebrate their abilities, not their disabilities.”

“It boosts her morale up. You know, she loves to show off and model and stuff like that,” Nadine Pickett, the parent of one of the patients, added.

All of the contestants got participation trophies with their names and special superlatives like Best Dancer and Best Mentor.
