Medicaid Home and Community Based Waiver Services (HCBS)

HCBS are Medicaid services that give children and youth with complex care needs the choice to stay in their homes and communities. HCBS are for children/youth who, without these supportive services, would need care in a more restrictive setting, such as a residential care facility, nursing home or inpatient care. If qualify, these programs and services “waive” or remove some of the usual financial requirements for getting Medicaid. If you know a medically complex or developmentally disabled child or youth who needs help to be able to live in their community, they may qualify for HCBS. Some examples include, Community and Day Habilitation, Respite Services, Caregiver Support, Palliative Care and Home/Vehicle Modification.
