Annual Big Hearts Walk for St. Mary’s Kids

Annual Big Hearts Walk for St. Mary’s Kids

Help support vital programs and services for the most critically ill children in New York by participating in the Big Hearts Walk for St. Mary’s Kids. Participants will gather at Crocheron Park in Bayside on Sunday, May 19th to participate in a walk and a day of family fun that will raise funds to support a truly unique and necessary pediatric healthcare facility, St. Mary’s Hospital for Children.

St. Mary’s Hospital for Children is New York City’s only pediatric post-acute facility, caring for children with special healthcare needs and medically complex conditions. Children and their families come to St. Mary’s to receive exceptional care, learn to manage conditions, and achieve a better quality of life.

We’ve set a fundraising goal of $125,000 for our 2019 Big Hearts Walk for St. Mary’s Kids. Last year, with your participation and support, we surpassed our goal of $100,000. We’re confident that we can do it again this year when you join us for a walk that will change lives!

When you sign up to walk for St. Mary’s Kids, you can feel confident that you are part of a truly important occasion. All proceeds from the Big Hearts Walk go to support the children at the heart of our mission. This walk plays a critical role in ensuring that St. Mary’s Hospital for Children can continue to provide the services and supports that help to heal children and promote their growth, development, and independence.

St. Mary’s Hospital for Children is a uniquely valuable resource for children with special medical needs and their families. Its work saves and changes lives for all of St. Mary’s Kids. You can be a part of this transformative project when you join us on the Big Hearts Walk.

In addition to supporting a great cause, you’ll also enjoy a wonderful day. St. Mary’s Kids themselves serve as Grand Marshals of the event, and the Walk is designed to be accessible to kids and entire families. You can bring your kids to help support other kids and families experiencing a difficult time while enjoying fun activities designed for people of all abilities.

The Big Hearts Walk for St. Mary’s Kids will take place in Bayside at Crocheron Park, with a specially designed kid-friendly 1/2-mile route. Adults and more experienced walkers can opt for the 1.5-mile lap or the 3-mile course as well. Your participation can help to inspire your colleagues, friends, family and co-workers to support St. Mary’s Kids as well. Supporters can pledge contributions to accompany your walk, or you can join with other walkers to form a team to maximize your contributions to the cause.

Your registration fee is $25.00 to participate in the Big Hearts Walk as an adult. You’ll also receive a
t-shirt and admission to the Family Fun Day as part of your contribution, and a special page will be created for you at the St. Mary’s Kids website. You can send your friends and family to your unique page to gather even more contributions to help change the lives of children with special medical needs in New York City.

In addition, you can also join in as a virtual walker to help raise money for St. Mary’s Kids online! If you’re not able to join us in Bayside personally, you can still walk virtually or make a donation and be a part of helping us reach our goal while sharing in the excitement of this unique New York City charity event.

Registration will begin at 9 a.m. on Sunday, May 19th, and it will be led by St. Mary’s Grand Marshals. The walk itself will start at 10 a.m. Following the walk, there is more fun to come! Family Fun Day includes a wide range of great activities for people of all ages. Children can enjoy music, cotton candy, face painting and even more. All of these special activities are designed to give back to the important programs at St. Mary’s Hospital for Children.

There is also a range of exceptional activities for adults that accompany the Big Hearts Walk. Gift baskets and gift cards will be raffled or on auction, and a silent auction will feature great products, services, and experiences bundled together especially for supporters of St. Mary’s Kids.

We’ll also be honoring a community leader and a true friend of St. Mary’s at this year’s Big Hearts Walk for St. Mary’s Kids. Catherine Pastoressa has been a consistent presence in the lives of the children at St. Mary’s Hospital for Children. She volunteers at St. Mary’s and has come to form real friendships with the children and families here. Even more, she has been a leader in St. Mary’s fundraising, including participating annually in the Big Hearts Walk. This year we will honor her for all that she does for St. Mary’s Kids.

When you become a part of the St. Mary’s family at the Big Hearts Walk, you are helping to change lives for the better. We hope you can join us in taking steps toward a brighter future for St. Mary’s Kids!
