St. Mary’s Healthcare System for Children provides children who have severe respiratory needs with the equipment, custom treatment plans and around-the-clock care essential to improving their condition.
Awarded the quality respiratory care recognition (QRCR) by the American Association of Respiratory Care, we combine advanced technology—including state-of-the-art mechanical ventilators and piped-in medical gasses—with a highly competent and caring interdisciplinary team to provide a safe and effective approach to managing the fragile and clinically complex pediatric respiratory patient.
From the moment a child arrives at St. Mary’s, our goal is to begin the weaning process and improve the quality of life for them—and their family. Our pediatric respiratory therapists work with our physicians to develop treatment plans, assess options for the patient, and implement and follow the respiratory treatment plan. They also work closely with families to educate them on their child’s respiratory protocols while at the hospital and help to transition the family home upon discharge.
New Center for Pediatric Respiratory Care
For an increasing number of New York City children, the need for a ventilator-equipped bed means they’re not able to live in the family home—or even close to it—and must seek their critical care out of state.
As the number of these medically fragile children is expected to grow nearly 10% each year, St. Mary’s is ready to help them—and their families—breathe easier with our new Center for Pediatric Respiratory Care. A 22,300-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility with 27 ventilator-equipped beds, the Center will provide homelike amenities to give these children a total-healing environment—and a place for their families to feel at home too.
