Empowering Diversity and Inclusion: St. Mary’s Automobile Workshop

The Inclusion and Diversity Engagement Committee at St. Mary’s Healthcare System for Children recently collaborated with “Women Auto Know” to offer employees an exclusive automobile workshop. Women Auto Know is a notable organization that strives to empower individuals with automotive knowledge, particularly women. This partnership reflects St. Mary’s commitment to inclusivity, as it supports women and all employees who may have limited knowledge about car maintenance and repair.

Workshop Highlights
The onsite automobile workshop offered employees a fantastic opportunity to engage with experienced instructors from Women Auto Know. During the workshop, participants gained knowledge in various areas, including:

1. Basic Car Maintenance: Employees learned about routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, tire rotations, and fluid checks. These practices are essential to prolong a vehicle’s lifespan and performance.
2. Identifying Warning Signs: The workshop provided insights into recognizing common signs of car trouble – ensuring employees can promptly address issues and prevent more extensive and costly damage.
3. DIY Repairs: While not everyone became a certified mechanic overnight, participants were introduced to basic DIY repairs and how to handle minor issues confidently.
4. Cost-Efficient Tips: Employees discovered practical tips on how to save money on car maintenance, such as finding trustworthy mechanics, understanding repair estimates, and shopping for car parts.
