9th Annual Walk for St. Mary’s Kids

On Sunday, May 19th, throngs of supporters came to Belmont Park in Elmont, NY for St. Mary’s Healthcare System for Children’s 9th Annual Walk to raise funds and awareness for children with special needs. As of today, the event has raised over $130,000 and counting to support St. Mary’s Kids. This year’s participants were as passionate as ever, facing unseasonably cold weather and constant rain with smiles and perseverance.

St. Mary’s Grand Marshals, five of St. Mary’s courageous patients – Sophia Resti, Pak The, Parker Chen, Jordon Bailey, and Miles Baker – were joined by Honorary Grand Marshals Joe Chierico of Laborers Local 79-Laborers Cares, Joe Matajy of Rallye Acura, and Liz Bracken of The New York Racing Association, to kick off the Walk as they led the 1/2 mile and 2 1/2 mile route around the Belmont Park. Community leaders and businesses, corporations, patients, families and friends proudly wore team t-shirts and held up walk banners representing their individual teams as they walked to support a worthy cause.

“At our annual Walk, some walk to celebrate the accomplishments of St. Mary’s Kids and others walk in memory of a loved one,” said Jeffrey Frerichs, President and Chief Executive Officer of St. Mary’s Healthcare System for Children. “But together, we all walked to support the mission of St. Mary’s Healthcare System for Children – to improve the health and quality of life for children with special healthcare needs and their families.”

Sponsors included Presenting Sponsor Laborers Local 79, joined by Rallye Acura, The New York Racing Association, Alma Bank, Farinella Consulting LLC, Local #3 IBEW, Municipal Credit Union, Applebees, Panera Bread, Royal Waste Services Inc., Atlantic Bank, and Bussani Mobility. A special thank you to Belmont Park for hosting the Family Fun Day.
