April Hero of the Month Awarded to Patient in St. Mary’s Pediatric Day Healthcare Program

Kids Wish Network Continues Program as they Inspire St. Mary’s Kids to be Heroes

St. Mary’s Pediatric Day Healthcare Program (PDHC) is pleased to announce the April Hero of the Month was awarded to Amado.

Amado was nominated by his physical therapist for his desire to work hard and achieve his goals. Many of his sessions include the Wii Boxing Game and Amado made it his personal goal to become the “Wii Boxing Champion.”

He has shown perserverance and motivation to reach this goal through consistent and focused energy in his day to day activites and therapies.
His diligent efforts have paid off. Amado is now able to walk with a gait trainer by himself for increasing distances, and has become less dependent on his long leg braces.

In addition to his physical achievements and inspiring attitude, Amado is recognized for his good heart, a unique characteristic which he displays each day. He has nothing but nice words or encouraging remarks to share with staff and peers.

Amado was presented with his Hero gift packet by the PDHC team, with his prideful parents watching with joy.

St. Mary’s PDHC program provides therapeutic and medical after-school, weekend, and summer camp programs for children and young adults who have cognitive and physical disabilities. The program encourages independence and teaches participants to build basic life skills.

Kids Wish Network’s monthly program is awarding a different patient from St. Mary’s each month who has faced and overcome difficult circumstances. Although their young lives are changed forever, their courage and spirit serve as an inspiration to all.

Congratulations to Amado, a true Hero and inspiration to us all!
