Fox 5’s Good Day New York and the Cast of Broadway Hit Musical “Altar Boyz” Brings a Holiday Surprise to Kids of St. Mary’s Hospital for Children

Geoffrey the Giraffe from Toys ‘R’ Us Surprises St. Mary’s Kids with Handfuls of Toys

It was a holiday surprise to remember. From the T.V. cameras and crews, to superstars, and even giraffes.

Anne Craig, aka “Anne About Town” from Good Day New York arrived at St. Mary’s Hospital for Children to uplift the holiday season for some of New York areas most seriously ill and injured children.

Bringing laughter and joy, the Fox 5 reporter helped created a lifetime of memories for St. Mary’s kids. But, she wasn’t alone.

During her live broadcast segment direct from the Bayside hospital, the infamous cast of the Broadway hit musical “Altar Boyz,” made a special surprise performance leaving St. Mary’s kids and their families in awe with their amazing voices. Keeping with the holiday cheer, wearing their Altar Boyz t-shirts, the five performers energetically sang “Deck the Halls with Boughs of Holly,” as their “little fans” eagerly danced and sang along. Their dazzling performance ended with a softly sang “Silent Night.”

The Broadway superstars took a liking to the children of St. Mary’s as they then walked around sparking laughter and conversations, having a great holiday time with some of the most extraordinary kids battling complex medical conditions.

To top off the memorable day, Toys ‘R’ Us donated loads of toys to St. Mary’s kids and had a pretty cool character distributing them; Geoffrey the Giraffe, the world’s leading toy store’s mascot.

When the 7 foot orange and brown notorious giraffe walked into the crowd, the kids belted out laughter and screams and immediately began hugging and kissing him. St. Mary’s kids couldn’t stop smiling as they received their gifts, all individually labeled with their names on it.

It was surely a memorable holiday for all of the children of St. Mary’s, and their families, as well as for St. Mary’s staff.

But most of all, the crew of Fox 5 and the cast of Altar Boyz couldn’t have received a better holiday gift than to hang out with some of the most amazing kids who have overcome great obstacles.
