Goldman Sachs Volunteers Arrive Just in Time for Spring

Group Spends Day Brightening St. Mary’s Garden

Spring has finally arrived, and St. Mary’s Healthcare System for Children is ready for it.

Thanks to volunteers from Goldman Sachs, St. Mary’s cloister garden is filled with budding plants, colorful flowers, and promising seeds, adding beauty and warmth to the Bayside landscape.

On Wednesday, May 20th as part of the community teamworks program, a few volunteers from the global financial firm took some time away from the office trading in their pens for shovels, and spent the day gardening under the hot sun at St. Mary’s. Each volunteer took on a different task from carefully preparing the dirt, planting the seeds, to watering the flowers.

The children of St. Mary’s, who are responsible for caring for the garden as part of St. Mary’s healing therapeutic program, stopped by to take a sneak peek at their new and improved garden, and were impressed with what they saw.

After a day of hard work, the group then jumped at the opportunity to do some arts & crafts with St. Mary’s kids, some of the most seriously ill and injured children in the New York area battling complex medical conditions.

Goldman Sachs teamworks community program encourages employees to volunteer their time and give back to the community, and these young adults were more than happy to have the opportunity to give back to children with special needs.

The group is expected to be back soon and looks forward to seeing their plants and flowers turn into beautiful summer pleasures.
