Queens Senator Watches St. Mary’s Therapists in Action and Learn about the Growing Need for Programs and Services Catering to Special Needs Families
District 11, New York State Senator, Frank Padavan, made a special visit to St. Mary’s Healthcare System for Children, a national leader in post-acute care for children with special needs and life-limiting conditions.
As a strong community advocate, the Queens Senator visited the bayside flagship facility in an effort to learn more about the innovative programs and services serving the needs of over 4,000 children and their families with special needs in the New York Metropolitan area and beyond.
Senator Padavan saw St. Mary’s therapists in action, doing what they do best. As he walked around meeting and greeting patients ranging from ages brith-18-years of age, he learned about the importance of the work St. Mary’s staff is involved in, from intensive rehabilitation, to education, and specialized medical care.
He watched as St. Mary’s kids engaged in unique therapies such as physical, speech, language, and arts & healing therapies, all to help them manage their condition, gain independence, and grow and strive within a child-friendly, family-centered environment.
Senator Padavan’s visit was certainly worth-while as he got to spend time with some of New York’s most extraordinary children battling complex medical and life-limiting conditions, and walked away knowing about the most vital impact St. Mary’s has on children and families across the region.
