St. Mary’s Kids Brighten Mother’s Day with Special Mommy-and-Me Celebration

In honor of Mother’s Day St. Mary’s staff from the Nursery neighborhood hosted a special Mommy-and-Me Arts and Crafts activity to honor all the mothers with babies at St. Mary’s. Nurses and recreational therapists invited mothers and grandmothers to create personalized artwork on canvas with the footprints and hand-prints of their infants and toddlers, under the theme “You are my Sunshine.”

St. Mary’s Kids are no strangers to engaging in interactive art activities. At St. Mary’s, we believe that art therapy plays an important role in promoting the health and well-being of our children. Children with medically complex conditions who are exposed to the arts are able to free their imaginations from constraints imposed by physical limitations. We have therefore developed a robust program at St. Mary’s to ensure that our patients can express themselves while away from home.

The Mother’s Day event was another opportunity to expose the patients and their families to the healing powers of art.

At the end of the event, the staff presented each mother with the decorated canvas as a keepsake for Mother’s Day.
