St. Mary’s Healthcare System for Children RECEIVES $75,000 GRANT From the Mother CABRINI HEALTH FOUNDATION
Grant Will Help Expand Telehealth Program for Kids with Special Needs

BAYSIDE, NEW YORK – St. Mary’s Healthcare System for Children has been awarded a $75,000 grant from the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation. The grant will help expand staffing for their telehealth home care service for children with medically complex conditions.

“More than ever before, kids with fragile medical conditions are one of New York’s most vulnerable and at-risk populations,” said Daniel Devine, St. Mary’s manager of institutional gifts. “St. Mary’s is seeking to shift the paradigm of pediatric healthcare through expanding the availability of our Telehealth Program, which remotely monitors the health of medically fragile children and young adults. Through this exciting new partnership with the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation, we’ll be able to keep many more of New York’s kids healthy and at home with their families.”

St. Mary’s Telehealth Program is a nursing-driven program provided through St. Mary’s Certified Home Health Care Agency, which specializes in healthcare services for medically complex children. Though the program, a team of skilled pediatric nurses utilize advanced technology to remotely monitor the health of medically fragile children who are living at home, enabling the nurses to identify and quickly respond to potential health complications. A white paper study demonstrated that the program had successfully reduced avoidable hospitalizations by 39% in one year.

This is the first grant cycle of the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation. In its inaugural grant-making round, the foundation awarded $150 million in grants across New York State.

“We are honored to support such a wide range of organizations doing critically important work to improve the health and well-being of New York’s most vulnerable communities,” said Alfred F. Kelly, Jr., Chief Executive Officer of Visa and Chair of the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation Board.
