2022 Senior Adult Volunteer of the Year Award

We are honored to share that Janette DeLuca received the 2022 Senior Adult Volunteer of the Year Award for her volunteer service at St. Mary’s Hospital for Children. The award will be presented on May 18th at the 2022 NYSHFA | NYSCAL Awards Banquet during Verona’s annual conference.

Janette started volunteering at St. Mary’s Hospital for Children in 2019, visiting with the infants. In the summer of 2020, the facility asked a small number of volunteers to return staff to their COVID screening desk. Janette was one of the first to offer her help. Volunteering every Monday afternoon, reminding everyone to start with hand sanitizer, taking temperatures, making masks available, and asking a list of health-related questions, she ensured that each person who entered the building had been properly cleared. Since then, Janette has made herself available every week, adding a second day to her schedule and training new volunteers.

“Janette’s willingness to pitch in whenever and wherever is needed has been a great help during these trying times. We greatly appreciate her and are happy she is part of our program,” said Maggie Sidarous, Administrator of St. Mary’s Hospital for Children. “Her volunteerism is truly exemplary and deserving of this prestigious award from NYSHFA | NYSCAL.”

NYSHFA’s Volunteer of the Year Awards Program recognizes outstanding volunteers serving in skilled nursing facilities. Winners received an engraved obelisk and were invited to attend the NYSHFA | NYSCAL annual conference.
